Cable floating shelf without nails or screws?

I am living in a dorm this year and, as most dorms operate, ours does not allow walls to be punctured or defaced with holes etc. We are, however, allowed to use 3M command hooks and adhesive strips.

Here's my idea. You've seen those floating cable shelves (like this one http://images.containerstore.com/MEDIA/ProductCatalog/4686/4686.jpg). Would it be possible to use two 5lb. capacity 3M command hooks and some metal cables with some sort of shelf to make a shelf for my wall?

I know it wouldn't hold much, but I wasn't sure the math to figure out what its capacity would be because the weight would be distributed through both hooks on either side.

If that wouldn't work, can you think of any other ideas for a shelf without having to drill holes in the wall?

Not sure how much this one is, but it's very modern. It would solve your problem of drilling holes in the wall.
