Drywall is damaged from tile removal (adhesive/ripped)....?

I removed tile from the wall that was secured by some adhesive. The adhesive remaining on the wall looks very much like rubber cement though I suppose it really isnt. Also, in removal of the old tile some areas of the drywall were peeled away, just the first outer white/beige layer, exposing the brown underneath. There are no holes or gouges in the drywall.

I want to put up mosaic or glass tile here. What do I need to do prep this wall? What is a good product or method for removing the adhesive? And do I need to repair or replace the torn areas of dry wall? Are they any special considerations?

In case it matters this is in the kitchen and refers to the area between the bottom of the cabinets and top of the counters, and area of about 2 ft wide and 8 ft long, then next section 1.5ft wide and 5 ft long and finally, next to the oven, 3 ft wide and 10 ft tall. Shld something different be used next to the overn as opposed to other areas, due to flammability??

Yes you will have to remove the remaining adhesive from the drywall. Since the paper is already coming off it may be easier to just keep pulling it off. There are a couple of options for you to consider. One is cutting through the drywall removing it and replacing it with the same thickness. This is going to be a tough and dirty process. The second option would be to remove all the old adhesive and cover the existing drywall with 1/4" or 3/8" or even 1/2" drywall. The drawback to this is that the edges will be exposed. There are trim tiles available which will wrap around the edges of drywall, it is known as "Mud" style trim the part number will begin with an "A" (example A 4200, A 4269, A 4402). I would also caution you not to go over the old drywall " core" as the alkali content in the gypsum will be exceed most manufactures recommendations. Lastly, the proximity to your oven should pose a problem..

Triolyse Adhesive $19.95 This UV glue is cured with an activator instead of an expensive UV light. This makes it ideal for gluing glass to glass, even opaques, which a UV light glue can and 39;t cure. If you and 39;re working in a humid environment, bake your glass and bails in an oven at about 200 - 250 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes before beginning. 2. Use a diamond engraver point on a rotary tool or glass engraver to rough the surface up where you will be applying glue. Do this to your glass, and to any portion of the finding that will be covered by the glass. 3. Clean both surfaces well with rubbing alcohol. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol will provide the best results. 4. Apply a small amount of the activator to both surfaces, then wait at least 15 seconds, but no more than 4 hours to proceed. 5. Apply enough adhesive to evenly coat the bail. 6. Position the bail on the glass and press pieces firmly together for about 15-30 seconds to create a bond. 7. Within 2 minutes, clean away excess adhesive and activator with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. 8. The adhesive fully cures after six hours (or as quickly as 30 minutes if you heat the parts to 150F).
