What kind of Magnets should i use?

For a furniture piece I am making I want small metal objects to be able to attach to my wood magnetically. As I am layering two pieces of flexible MDF together and gluing them I wondered if there was a way to use ultra thin magnetic sheets in between so the magnetic force would be on top without the magnets showing on the surface. I was looking at things like this...http://e-magnetsuk.com/magnet_products/flexible_rubber_magnets/adhesive_backed_magnetic_rubber_sheet.aspx...although I don't think this would have enough force to hold objects on the other side of the MDF...opinions would be welcome...

You want to be able to hold a meaningful load through a layer of wood a few mm thick?

I think you'll need something a little stronger than those flexible sheets.
Probably a Neodymium magnet of some sort (see the site you linked to).
Unfortunately that would require you to cut cavities in the wood to fit the magnets.

Would it be possible to reverse the system? Put a thin sheet of iron in between the wood layers and then mount the magnets in the things to be attached?
