how do you safely remove adhesive from turn of the century documents?
I have some postcards dated from 1894 - 1925 that have been pasted/glued to black construction paper. This was common back around the turn of the century. This was how they were displayed in an album for others to easily view. I want to remove them so that I can read the writing on the backs in order to better understand what the family history has hidden in these notes, but the paper is so fragile and the ink so easily smudged, etc. All searches that I have made turn up instructions that are too costly for me, especially when I am not certain that the information will be useful. If you have had success in a similar situation, your experience will be helpful!
I don't think you can take it off without removing too much paper. Would it help to use a very strong magnifier instead?
