Are vinyl floor tiles ok for a gecko enclosure?

My mum has just bought me some self adhesive vinyl floor tiles. they are quite thin, i was just wondering if they are ok to put as flooring in a gecko wooden vivarium and will they be ok for letting the heat through on the heat mat? Thanks

I'd be concerned about how the adhesive would react with heat, and if it will produce toxic fumes. I'm not having much luck envisioning your habitat. Is the floor made of wood, and then you are wanting to put vinyl tiles over that, with the mat applied to the outside bottom of the wood floor? I doubt the heat mat will be warm enough if the wood is 1/2" thick.

I would also think that applying a heat mat to wood could be a fire hazard. They are meant to be applied to glass and then the tank lifted on spacer legs to prevent heat from building too high and to keep the pad up off the surface of the stand/table.

The vinyl tiles should be fine, if the adhesive doesn't react with heat and is animal safe. Wiping it down with a disinfectant such as Novalson should keep it clean and Leo safe.

If you use this one, I recommend sealing it with well with several layers of Modge Podge or another animal-safe acrylic sealer to prolong use and make for easy cleaning/sterilizing.
