What is the best way of removing labels from wine bottles (intact)?
I've tried the adhesive with laminate that you press onto the label, but it doesn't work that well.
There is no one best way; it depends on the adhesive used and a number of other factors including how long the label has been on the bottle.
Most new world wines and most wines with a vintage in the past 10 years have self-adhesive labels and these will NOT soak off. You have to use heat to soften the glue so you can peel thelabel off. Best way is to pour boiling water into the bottle, leave for 5-8 minutes then use finger nail on edge to peel the label off. Alternatives to this could be placing in a hot oven for a few minutes, using a hair dryer etc.
Older labels and old world labels olderthan 10 years are often water soluable, soaking in warm water will loosen glue.
Best is to try method 1 first; ifthat doesn't work, try 2.
Regarding the laminate removers -- they vastly underestimate the time it takes fro thei rglue to bond. Place on lable, rub on with back of spoon and leave for a couple of days for glue to bond before trying to remove.
Last method -- Ihave not used it because I am scared of razor blades but I have a friend who uses one to razor off labels; he never has problems (but gets lots of cuts)
