Hanging a mirror?

I came back to my dorm after summer and discovered that a large mirror had been removed. The mirror (which was about 3 ft tall and 1 ft wide) was originally attached to a closet door (wood with some sort of finish) and left a lot of adhesive residue when removed. How could I hang a new mirror on the door without using something that will damage the wood? I don't want the mirror to fall, but can't use nails, screws, or anything that isn't removable or leaves a hole.

Can you still get mirror tiles? these are about 6 inches square and can be glued onto the door. You can use 12 of them, each one is itself not too heavy.

Scrape off the adhesive residue first if you can.

Alternative - can you put a hook over the top of the door, (like they use for hanging clothes) and hang a mirror from that?
