How to repair crack on side of acoustic guitar?

A bonehead knocked the side of my guitar into the wooden arm of a chair, leaving a 5" crack on the top side. I need to patch it so it doesn't grow longer. The crack is in the the center of the side and it is located between the sound hole and bridge. I can reach it from inside if I remove the strings.

1.) The crack is uneven - one side is a little deeper than the other. I suppose I would tap it from the inside to knock it even again. How would I safely do that?

2.) I can order spruce patching wood and titbond glue from Stew-Mac. What is the best way to go about it? A bunch of little strips of patching wood perpendicular to the crack? A long piece glued along it?

3.) How do I keep the wood in place while it dries? It's along a curved part of the inside.

First of all, that is a solid part of the guitar even if it is curve and will not affect th sound. Its not like the table tob which actually gives the tone.

First of all, no need to remove the string. Just loosen them and tie them together with a piece of tape to prevent them from scratching the guitar when you reach inside. Tape them at the base of the neck by putting the irst 3 strings at the bottom of the neck and the other 3, at the top. Tape from behind.

Now, if the crack is deeper on one side, I suggest getting the JET super glue sold in most hobby store. This glue dries in 20 seconds, and works beautifully in porous material and provides EXCELLENT resistance to wear and tear. Use this to tack the sides together. Now finish by applying carpenters glue from the inside and the outside. Fill the gap and wipe the escess off. After a minute or so, use a damp cloth onthe outside to remove excess glue.

BEFORE applying the JET glue, boil a small pot of water and hold the crack over it for a minute or so. Quickly put the hand inside and push the side that is even and make it flush with the other. Hold for 30 seconds so it takes shape and stays put. By steaming the wood, it is easy to bend the wood without any cracking.
If it isn't flush, repeat the process. Then, and only then, apply the JET glue from the outside, (don't get any on your fingers) and put a few drops while pushing from the inside to make it flush. Hold for 20 seconds and it will hold. You won't need clamps if you follow my instructions. The JET glue is strong enough to even hold your fingers to the guitar which I don't suggest trying.

Apply the carpenters glue lastly to fill the gap from the inside and outside. This glue dries transparently. I doube their is a need to add spruce wood unless you are willing to sand, and refinish the guitar which I don't suggest unless you really KNOW what you are doing.

Once the job is done, you can lightly spray varnish and hand buff it to a shine. It should do a good job of hiding and filling the crack .
