Can you use an oil primer over acrylic gesso for an oil painting?

I usually use only acrylic gesso however have recently learned about oil primers having a better surface for oil painting. I am reluctant to use rabbit skin glue, does anyone know of any alternatives which compare?

Many acrylic gessos work for oil painting. There are gessos specifically made for oil painting, but you really don't need to put one over the other. For improving the overall quality of your oil paintings you should:
Use a high-quality oil paint
Begin with high-quality canvasses or linens
Gesso the canvas or linen with the oil-specific gesso to begin with.

These things will make quite a difference with your paintings, assuming your skills and talent are the best they can be.
