Subwoofer with magnet sticking out of enclosure....questions?

Are there any advantages/disadvantages of puting a sub in an enclosure with the magnet sticking out and the front of the sub on the inside of the enclosure, other than probably having to build the box slightly smaller to compensate for the unit displacement.

Also, how would one go about screwing the sub into the box? I'm assuming that you'd probably have to do it before you glue the box together, but not sure.

Seen some cars with the subs like this, thats why I ask. Thanks!

One sub in a box with the magnet out allows for a smaller box like you stated. but you have to worry about stuff hitting the bottom of the cone, where if you mounted it traditionally, you could use some sort of grill to protect the cone.
As far as screwing the sub to the box, there are bolts that use nuts with teeth(assuming a wooden box) I'm not sure what they're called, but you mount the nuts on the inside of the box, then screw the bolts in from the outside. the teeth on th nuts dig into the wood and they are locked in place.
