Safely Removing Bumper Stickers From Your Car

One thing is certain.  Regardless of the condition of that bumper sticker or the fact that the message on it is no longer valid, not removing them properly with the proper cleaners and tools will result in a partially torn sticker.  This looks worse than having left the bumper sticker alone and not tampering with it at all.  The process of removing a bumper sticker cleanly and safely off of your vehicle’s chrome bumper, glass, or painted surface really isn’t that difficult if you are careful and follow a few specific steps.

 

How to remove those stickers from your vehicle

 

There are a few steps that you should consider when you are trying to remove bumper stickers from your car.  Surprisingly, there are only two key components required for the removal process – a bottle of denatured alcohol and a straight-edge, razor blade scraper with a handle attached.  Should you not have these, it is advisable that you purchase them before even considering trying to remove those bumper stickers from your vehicle.

 

Remember first and foremost that no matter what surface the bumper sticker is attached to, the longer it has been on that surface; the tougher it is going to be to remove it.  The location of that sticker (i.e. bumper, glass, or paint) will usually determine what you are up against when it comes time to remove it.  Here is some advice as to how to handle the job no matter which of these surfaces we are discussing:

 

Glass surfaces – removing bumper stickers from glass is the easiest compared to bumpers or painted surfaces.  Your razor blade scraper will most likely be all you need to remove it from the glass without scratching that surface.

 

Bumpers – the difficulty involved with removing bumper stickers off your car’s bumpers will be determined by the surface.  Some bumpers are chromed while others are not even metal and are painted.  Additionally, if the bumper sticker has not been in place that long, it may just peel off without the use of the alcohol and scraper.  You need to be careful if it is affixed to a chrome bumper because the scraper can etch or scratch the finish.  Use the alcohol to remove any glue or residue that remains after you have removed the sticker.

 

Painted surfaces – if the sticker has been affixed to a painted non-metallic bumper, or is attached to another painted surface, this will be the most tedious removal and will involve the greatest amount of care when removing them with the scraper.  Paint is easily scratched, so the need to be very slow and cautious with this is necessary.

Polarizing filter tape?

I am a film polarized LCD age, but has a tail on the side touching the glass. According what I read, is a kind of optical pressure sensitive adhesive. What I know is: how to remove the glue? Has anyone tried or done this before? I tried acetone in small bands, but they can damage the plastic with a bit of pressure too much or leaving more than a few seconds, a risk you certainly do not want to take. I tried Goo Gone, but almost nothing is to take several attempts to remove the tail, if you do. Someone know how I could for this type of adhesive film polarized?

Triolyse Adhesive $19.95 This UV glue is cured with an activator instead of an expensive UV light. This makes it ideal for gluing glass to glass, even opaques, which a UV light glue can and 39;t cure. It is great for glass to glass fusing, mosaics, three-dimensional stained glass and jewelry, among other applications. In addition, it and 39;s also well suited for gluing metal to glass (like jewelry findings) with fast and easy cleanup. You can even use Triolyse with stone such as granite or marble. Package includes 14ml of activator and 10ml of adhesive. Using Triolyse is Easy. Below are some helpful hints for Triolyse from Delphi guest instructor Cheryl Frech 1. Humidity makes a difference. If you and 39;re working in a humid environment, bake your glass and bails in an oven at about 200 - 250 degrees F for 20 to 30 minutes before beginning. 2. Use a diamond engraver point on a rotary tool or glass engraver to rough the surface up where you will be applying glue. Do this to your glass, and to any portion of the finding that will be covered by the glass. 3. Clean both surfaces well with rubbing alcohol. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol will provide the best results. 4. Apply a small amount of the activator to both surfaces, then wait at least 15 seconds, but no more than 4 hours to proceed. 5. Apply enough adhesive to evenly coat the bail. 6. Position the bail on the glass and press pieces firmly together for about 15-30 seconds to create a bond. 7. Within 2 minutes, clean away excess adhesive and activator with a soft cloth and rubbing alcohol. 8. The adhesive fully cures after six hours (or as quickly as 30 minutes if you heat the parts to 150F). Jewelry artists, watch a quick online video to see how easy it is to secure your bails in place with Triolyse. The projects in these pictures were all done in a one-day class at the Glass Craft and Bead Expo in Las Vegas. Students were asked to bring a fused element that we would convert into a sculpture, or create a base that will enhance their work. We can see from these examples that the students quickly understood the 3 dimensional possibilities of this versatile glue. PMC3 has the same characteristics as PMC+ except for having a much lower firing temperature (200 to 350 degrees less). The lower firing temperature makes this clay a great match for fusing with glass, especially Wasser 90 COE glass. Use paste as a glue to fasten clay sections of PMC. Another favorite use of paste is to paint it over an organic items, such as a leaf or paper. Fire the leaf with the paste and the organic item burns off, leaving the textured pure silver piece.
