snowboard box top? what material should i use?

i have this table that would be a good box. i tried spray painting it, but it comes off really easily is there anything i can paint on it that will help it slide well, like a real box. i know there HDPE and LEXAN, but they're expensive. i also heard something about fiberglass resin, whats that, and how do i do it? anyother kind of plastic thats pretty cheap i can just glue on to it? thanks.
wont my edges catch on the carpet with boardslides?
will there be cracks inbetween them, or will it be one smooth surface, how much approximately does this cost?

go to home depot and buy some bathroom tiles. then get a lot of super glue and glue them to your surface. make sure you line them up evenly, if you do this then you wont catch an edge, even if you boardslide. i didnt think it would have worked, but it did.
