Watch service and valeting tapes

In watch servicing jobs, valeting tape finds an important place. It is used mainly for insulation purposes and typically is available in many sizes to suit different needs. Finger cots are worn by watch makers especially during valeting jobs to protect their fingers.

Kapton Polymide Valeting tape 12 mm is ideally suited for Rolex watch bracelets. This tape has excellent endurance and resistance properties to make it very popular among watch makers. It is an adhesive tape that can be used at high temperatures. It has been used with success even at 400 C and is known to char only at 800 C. The tape has dimensional stability over a wide temperature range and reliable physical and electrical properties that makes it indispensable to watch makers. It is coated with a clear silicone adhesive on one side which is pressure sensitive. In a roll, there are 33 m of tape to be found. Kapton is a registered trade mark of Dupont which speaks for its quality.  It is ideally suited to mask gold edge fingers and edge connectors when soldering or reflow soldering in the PCB assembling industry. Because of its remarkable resistance to friction and temperature withstanding properties in the range of -5 C to +370 C, it is very useful in the valeting process of watch servicing. The tape can be cut to shape and added to the area that needs to be protected. Kapton Tape is available in widths of 3 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 19 mm and 25 mm. Every roll is 33 metres in length. These Kapton polymide come in dots also apart from tape form. The Kapton dots are available in diameters of 4, 6, 9 and 12 mm. They come in packets of 1000 dots.

The Bufflex Wheel by Robur is a popular buffing wheel that is used to provide a satin smooth finish. It is suitable for all metal types. It is used by watch makers to produce a factory finish on watch cases and bracelets. It is made in France and has leather fastened secured centre piece. There are three sections to provide effective polishing on multiple surfaces. Those in the watch servicing industry will need to protect their fingers during different jobs. For this purpose, there are finger cots and protectors that are made of latex. They come in packets of 144 pieces and have tough anti static properties. They are very useful when watch makers are involved in the valeting process or are engaged in the process of handling polishing and cleaning solutions. They also help to keep fingers clean in general. These cots come with textured tips that make them sensitive and they are powder free which means no residue is left after the jobs are done. The polishing cone is used to hold rings when they are being polished – it helps to keep the ring in one place to provide a uniform polishing effect.
