How the hell am I suppolse to build a ball launcher?

My tech ed teacher assigned a gay progect to build a ball launcher. I have no idea what to do. Its suppolse to launch a ball 8 feet. Materials are paper, pencils, plastic balls, faseners(like screws), white glue, tape, wooden dowel rod(Idk what that is), up to 12 inches of string, and any 3 exta construction materiels of our choice, like rubber bands or cardboard.
The machine is suppolse to Launch balls 8 feet into a basket. I looked at some previous ones and idea's are making something that looks like a catapult, and another one uses a mouse trap to trigger it somehow. Please help me, I have no idea and my teacher is stupid and probably ouldnt build this himself!

You said 3 extra construction materials? PVC Pipe, pvc glue and a BBQ lighter. Make a potato cannon for the ball! You can make that ball go 80feet instead of 8! (I`d say 800 ft but the ball is probably too light) Use the string to make a sling to carry it and use the dowel for a handle lol.
