Mylar Tape

Cut your own stencils is quite easy, but there are some specific tips.

Choose the type you want, either from a drawing or a picture in a magazine.

Now remember that for a design to cut a "template" (and we're talking about stencils unique and not overlapping ..) You must separate the items. For example, the leaves must be separated from the pink rose petals should be separated other. It is very important.

Place your original photo as a piece of tracing paper. Describe each item with a black marker, leaving a "bridge" (open space) between the elements that are key to another.

Place your pattern traced under a piece of glass on a table or other hard surface such as a strong counter. Any piece of glass will do, even a glass plate from a picture frame.

Use stencil burner rather than exacto since you will get net reductions and the whole process is much easier. Stencil burners are inexpensive at your local craft store and get the job done so fast and easy. The burner template looks like a soldering iron, with a comfortable handle and tip metal heats long.

Place the stencil burner on a plate to protect the table from the heat. Plug it into an electrical outlet to heat the tip.

Acetate or Mylar can be purchased at various online websites at your local craft store or art store. Tape the sheet of mylar plastic glass.

Once the stencil has become hot burner, stand directly over your design (no sitting or leaning on the side as this can give you a perspective and improper design can become a bit "biased" as you cut.

Gently touch the tip burner of the lines of your drawing and just draw lines by dragging the design (not push) the burner stenciled around the lines of design.

Once you have completed all the lines, not just strips of mylar and pull up the glass. All openings stencil stick to the glass which can then be removed with a plastic scraper or razor blade simple. Your new template is now ready for use with paint or even drywall compound for embossing.
