Some of us may have used glue guns purchased at local art supply stores for art projects around the holidays. The same idea is behind the high tech glue guns that are used on automated assembly equipment that operates at production speeds. These precision special machines glue together all of the boxes we see in our local supermarket, and across the spectrum of consumer products. Hot melt technology is even used in the diapers we put on our children.
Every day glue guns deposit millions of little drops of glue on millions of boxes and other specialized products throughout the world. They hold together all of the "stuff" we buy that comes in cardboard and other type of boxes, even some types of plastic packaging. This is done totally automatically and it happens 24 hours a day 7 days a week.
This technology was essentially pioneered by the Nordson Corporation, beginning in 1954. Wherever products are labeled, sealed together, zipped, or shipped, chances are that Hot Melt Technology of one form or another is at work. The array of industries that use this technology is staggering: food and drink, medical, pharmaceutical, automotive, nonwoven, consumer appliances, metal machining and fabricating, and many others.
Some specific applications for hot melt dispensing equipment are bag forming and sealing, tray forming, case and carton sealing, labeling, pallet stabilization, corrugated box assembly, folded cartons, and myriad types of product assembly.
Glenmar Technology in Plainfield, NJ has developed replacement hot melt parts for a wide variety of applications. Their manufacturing expertise developed from years of experience in the contract machine shop business. They have a background of over 20 years in the production of everything from screw machine parts to high precision milled parts.
There are a number of challenges to producing replacement parts for this industry. The industry demands a high level of precision, since hot melt packaging equipment operates at very high speeds. The diversity of different applications is also a challenge, since each industry has it's specific application and unique requirements.
A company that produces hot melt replacement parts has to know the industry well, and produce parts very efficiently and cost effectively. Hot glue valves, hot glue guns, hot glue modules, hot glue hoses, and a wide variety of other parts that are essential to their customers must be offered.
Although the production of hot melt parts is a challenge, it is also a creative process since the industry is very dynamic. It evolves continuously to meet the challenges of an industry where speed, precision
and flexibility are paramount.
