Why do self-adhesive tiles have to face the same way?

I was installing floor tiles and noticed that the directions said; "Wherever tiles are marked with arrows in the back, install them so that all the arrows point in the same direction..."
My question is why do they have to be pointed in the same direction? They are symmetrical, so there really is no difference when looking at them.

If they are marked, then they are not symmetrical. The pattern may not be obvious, but it is there. Or it might be in the width of the margins.

Lay out a bunch of them on the floor according to the arrows, turn one, and step back. You (or someone else) should be able to pick out the different tile.

You certainly don't want to find out you should have followed the directions later.
