Antler Lamps Dramatically Change Your Interior Design

Antler lamps are an excellent way to create western decor. Much more than a way to light your home, antler lamps add charm to your room. If you have a mountain cabin or southwest style home, the wonderful charm of antlers with their unusual shapes and variations in natural color will give your area the unique western style you desire.

Ranch style home owners as well as those constructing contemporary houses have used antler lamps for decades as the must have rustic lighting to enhance their ranch style home look. Because of the natural shape of antler lamps and chandeliers there is a rustic beauty in the antlers themselves that wonderfully accompanies any variety of rustic style furniture. There is something special about antler lamps that pulls every element together and gives off a sophisticated country feel in the room. Antler lamps have a unique quality about them that definitely creates rustic beauty in any environment.

Antler lamps also accompany many other rustic accessories in home interior design. In the Northwest or "north woods" antlers may be added to snow shoes and adorned with rawhide lamp shades to create fabulous wall sconces. The light wood and rawhide lacing on the shoe, together with the leather binding and luminous glow of the hand stitched shade, make it a fabulous harmony. Smaller antler chandeliers are sometimes fashioned from whitetail deer antlers while larger chandeliers sometimes have several tiers of huge elk antlers. Weather your area is large or small an antler chandelier will create western style.

In Jackson Hole, WY the downtown is adorned with arches created from Elk antlers. It is definitely one of a kind and you can achieve the same look with antler lamps. Small lamps can be made from whitetail deer antlers while larger light fixtures such as chandeliers may have tiers of elk antlers adorned with rawhide lampshades. One of the most popular lamps is made with moose antlers, unmistakable with their beautiful dark palms and dark rawhide lamp shades.

Each year, groups and associations like the Boy Scouts will go looking for the prized sheds. If you ever discover antler sheds outdoors, it is an amazing occurrence. Antler lamps bring that same look in your home and can change your setting's ambiance in a most exciting way.

Antlers are found in varying conditions that are graded like rare coins. The best quality is given an "A" grade. The grading criteria, indirectly, has to do with the how much time the sheds lie exposed on the ground before they are found. The more time they are left on the ground, the more they break down. Newer antler sheds will be dark brown in color. Sheds that are not discovered soon will start to bleach in the sun until they become a chalky white. Another factor they loose their value is because of chew marks from small animals and stains from wet ground or moss.

There are also different techniques for making the antler lamps themselves. Some lamp makers use glue to hold the antlers together. Others may join them together with rawhide thong for a western look. And some of the most attractive antler lamps may use a combination of glue, screws and lacing, with the holes closed up for a natural look. Better quality lamps will almost always include rawhide lamp shades.

Each antler is a little different than any other, so each antler lamp is a unique treasure and is absolutely fabulous for western lighting. Try antler lamps with rawhide lamp shades in your home to create true rustic charm and to give it that warm, inviting look and feel that everybody loves.

Unique Wedding Stationary: What do you think?

Hey guys, I'm just looking for opinions on the style I'm thinking of using for my invites.

We wanted to go with something different and quirky, so we've been thinking: A invite made of material (Champagne colored) with the wordings stamped or stitched onto it with lace as the border. Glued to the back of the material will be a piece of nice scrap-booking type cardboard (either peach, gray or white). On the cardboard, using a watercolor design (hand-painted) will be our initials. We're then going to tie a ribbon around the card held by a feather and a rose/orchid/lily.

Remember this is a rough idea, as we're playing around with the basics of it. We would love to hear your suggestion if you have any ideas. Keep in mind we want to work with the material no matter what. Please DON'T suggest traditional styles!

Your invitations sound very unique. Make one test invitation and see how you like it, then tweak any changes as you deem necessary. I picture your invitation to be very romantic looking. Keep the lace simple for a classy look.

Remember one thing: This invitation sounds like it will be pretty thick with several layers along with the feather, flower and ribbon tied around it all. Keep in mind that this invitation will have to be hand canceled and therefore the postage fees will be greater than a traditional engraved paper invitation that slips into an envelope and lays flat.
