How do I stop the leak in my Lexmark 42 black ink cartridge?

I refilled it with a kit from wal-mart by drilling a hole in the top, squeezing a bottle of ink with a tiny needle that filled the cartridge and then I put a very strong adhesive sticker over the hole because that's what the directions said to do.

It started to print just fine but then it started leaking and not printing at all and it put big blotches of ink on the pages I tried to print. It was almost working perfect at first except at the bottom of the page but then it just quit and started leaking all over the place.

Ugh! What do I do to fix it?

You've overfilled it. If you put the whole bottle of ink in this may have been too much and usually if its big blotches this it too much ink. The cartridge can only hold so much and like any container it will have to overflow somewhere and as the top is sealed then the bottom is where its going to.

This is my suggestion and I have done this after I have overfilled, take the cartridge out and take the sticker off. Put the empty syringe back in the cartridge and pull up the plunger so that you remove ink from it. This should get rid of the excess. You will then have to get the ink out of the printer by blotting the place that the cartridge fits in with some kitchen paper to mop it up and then if the cartridge has stopped leaking put it back and see if its helped. If that does not work you may have pushed the syringe in too far to the sponge and it penetrated the bottom and if that has happend then that cartridge is no good as it will just keep leaking. You only need to push the needle in untill you feel it had gone into the sponge and once any ink has started to show at the fill hole you stop injecting the ink as this is the ink coming back out as the sponge has no more room to obsorb any more ink so it will not last longer just ruin the cartridge.
