Why Windshields Fail

With the high number of traffic related accidents, injuries and deaths that occur each year, one might expect a significant level of safety regulation among car manufacturers, car repair shops and government. In general this is true, the safety standards of vehicles continues to increase, while injuries related to traffic, at least in the United States continue to decline. However, these rules and regulations apply to the overall safety of the vehicle and to and do not necessarily apply to every part of the car. When it comes to windshield, the burden falls on the consumer to make sure your windshield is properly installed.

Poor installation
There have been numerous press reports of drivers and passengers from being ejected from his vehicle following a windscreen is not in a car accident. Many times, these accidents arethe result of improperly installed windshield replacements. Windshields are installed with a polyurethane adhesive that is designed to attach the windshield from its frame. The federal government sets safety standards to ensure that the supplied adhesive is strong enough to keep the windshield to explode in a collision.

The problem occurs when the installation is very fast and the adhesive, which usually has more than 24 hours to cure, remains moist and not allowed to dry completely, resulting in a weak link betweenthe windshield and chassis. If the adhesive fails to hold the windshield, that will leave any of the effects of collision and impact of the airbag on the passenger side when it comes to bounce off the windshield, as displayed.

Contaminated Conditions
Given the sensitive nature of the tail of urethane and the importance of properly on the windshield, any contamination would result in improper installation. If you need to get your windshield replaced, make sure your auto glass shop employs and enforces standards of installation to avoid contamination of the adhesive used to attach the windshield of the car. Oil and dirt from hands can weaken the glue. Replacement windshield must be installed with rubber gloves.

Pinch welding
The solder material is emerging that “locks” on the windshields of maintenance in place within the framework of the car, is supported by a steel column that gives rigidity. The inadequate preparation of the emerging welding can result in faulty installation. In addition to ensuring that the auto glass installer keeps a clean work area, be sure to ask them what their process of preparation for the pinch weld. It is recommended that the pinch weld kept clean and free from zero. If a pinch weld is not properly prepared, can suffer from corrosion problems later that can further weakenthe adhesive bond between the windshield and the car. This is a common problem with the installation of replacement windshield.

Meet your coach
Windshield safety can mean the difference between life and death in a car accident. If your car requires a replacement windshield, make sure the auto shops glass thorough investigation before making its decision. While there are safety standards established by the government, the only person who can be the application of these standards are the consumers themselves.

I need to glue/weld a lock to a piece of sheet metal (metal on metal) what should I use?

I bought this industrial strength adhesive containing toluene and was wondering if that will be strong enough or should I go buy some JB weld? any other suggestions?

Toluene is just a solvent.

As to whether your industrial strength will work or whether JB Weld will work is totally dependent on what type of forces you want this glued on lock to withstand.

To get the best possible adhesion from whatever you use, both surfaces need to be washed down with a non-residue cleaner like acetone, MEK, MIBK or some other hot solvent (no reference to temperature...refers to solvents action)...use a clean cloth.

Good luck...

Hyperbaric Welding

Hyperbaric Welding

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Hyperbaric welding is the process of welding at elevated pressures, normally underwater. Hyperbaric welding can either take place wet in the water itself or dry inside a specially constructed positive pressure enclosure and hence a dry environment. It is predominantly referred to as hyperbaric welding when used in a dry environment, and underwater welding when in a wet environment. The applications of hyperbaric welding are diverseit is often used to repair ships, offshore oil platforms, and pipelines. Steel is the most common material welded. Dry hyperbaric welding is used in preference to wet underwater welding when high quality welds are required because of the increased control over conditions which can be exerted, such as through application of prior and post weld heat treatments. This improved environmental control leads directly to improved process performance and a generally much higher quality weld than a comparative wet weld. Thus, when a very high quality weld is required, dry hyperbaric welding is normally utilized. Research into using dry hyperbaric welding at depths of up to 1,000 metres (3,300 ft) is ongoing. Carbon is one of our favorite elements. It makes diamonds, it makes all known life possible, and it makes pencils (and who doesn't love pencils?) Also, it seems that carbon fullerenes (buckeyballs, nanotubes, etc) are going to do a lot in our future. Time to bring a little of that microcarbon goodness into your home and make it work for you now. "Wire Glue" Conductive Glue uses microcarbon technology to make a glue that also conducts electricity. That's right - no need for solder anymore; now you have Wire Glue! It acts like a glue, it acts like a wire, it tastes like . . . just kidding - don't eat it, and it's stupendously-awesome-incredible. Put simply, it sticks bits together and allows electricity to flow between them. Wire Glue is great for repairing wires, gluing together electronic kits, and really, is a great safe (i.e. no heat) way of introducing children to electrical engineering. Get some now, and get in on the microcarbon revolution early. "Wire Glue" Conductive Glue Using the latest advances in microcarbon technology, this glue actually conducts electricity. Lead free.
