I live in the Phils.,and temperature is always humid. Can i skip butter cream when making a fondant cake?

When I put butter cream, it melts & absorbs with the fondant and I get a messy fondant effect. The butter cream is either melting or discoloring my fondant. what do i put to adhere the fondant directly on the cake without the butter cream so that my fondant glues to the cake ?What do i substitute for butter cream underneath my fondant to give my cake a better taste & that does not melt with humid temperature?
